Proclamation "National Day of Prayer"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast will take place on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at 7:30 a.m. at the Alice Drive Baptist Church, and a National Day of Prayer Ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at 12:00 p.m. on the front lawn at the Sumter County Courthouse. Sumter is a City blessed with numerous churches and with citizens who exhibit their faith through their actions and who seek guidance through daily prayer. Thursday, May 5, 2011, has been declared as a National Day of Prayer by our Congress and President. Citizens of Sumter wish to join millions throughout our United States of America in prayer on this important occasion. The theme for the National Day of Prayer is "A Mighty Fortress is Our God".

NOW THEREFORE, I, Joseph T. McElveen, Jr., Mayor of the City of Sumter, South Carolina, do hereby proclaim, Thursday, May 5, 2011 as a:

"DAY OF PRAYER AND THANKSGIVING"
in the
CITY OF SUMTER

and urge the citizens of the City of Sumter to join me in observing this Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving by praying with special diligence for the peace and welfare of our country, state, city and county; for wisdom and guidance for our leaders at all levels of government, church, business and family; for compassion and healing for all who are in physical, financial and spiritual need; and with thanksgiving for all the blessings we enjoy each day.

FURTHERMORE, I extend a special thanks to the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast Committee for its service and dedication in organizing the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast, the Sumter Ministerial Association and the Black Concerned Clergy of Sumter for their dedication and service in organizing the National Day of Prayer Ceremony. Additionally, I respectfully ask that all Sumter media, including The Item, the radio stations of Miller Communications (WIBZ, WICI, WKHT and WDXY), WQMC Radio, and WRJA-TV and Radio, publicize this proclamation, and the two associated events, by announcing to the public, the designation of May 5, 2011 as a "National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving."
