The project team has analyzed every public comment and made recommendations while taking each into account. Three (3) alternatives have been developed to better connect the Sumter community — safely.

Use the sliders (arrows) below to compare each alternative to what is currently at the intersection of Miller Road.
Alternative 1
This alternative successfully connects South and North Pike Roads for pedestrians and motorists by raising US 378 and placing easily traversable, single-lane roundabouts on each Pike.
This alternative looks to eliminate pedestrian fatalities and increase accessibility for all users.
Alternative 2
Alternative 2 converts US 378 to a Boulevard while incorporating at-grade pedestrian crosswalks and altering North and South Pike Roads.
This alternative directs motorists to US 378 while converting the Pike Roads to access driveways for local businesses.
Alternative 3A
Alternative 3A raises US 378 and allows pedestrians to cross under US 378 to get from one Pike Road to the other.
Alternative 3B raises US 378 and allows pedestrians and vehicles to cross under US 378 to get from one Pike Road to the other (Refer to Alternative 1 for rendering).
Both 3A and 3B focus on pedestrian safety while adding improvements to both South and North Pike Road.
