City of Sumter Celebrates Opening of Memorial Park Playground with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
Sumter, SC – February 24, 2025 – The City of Sumter proudly cut the ribbon on the Memorial Park Playground today, bringing an exciting new recreational space to the community. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by State Speaker of the House, Murrell Smith, Representative David Weeks, Mayor David Merchant, Council members James Blassinggame, Calvin Hastie, Lynn Kennedy, Colin Davis, and Gifford Shaw, community members, and families, celebrated the completion of this inclusive playground designed to promote safe play and family bonding.
Councilwoman Lynn Kennedy (Ward 4) and Mayor David Merchant, took the opportunity to try out the playground’s features. Councilwoman Kennedy was spotted enjoying herself on the swings, while Mayor Merchant tested one of the slides.
In addition to the traditional playground offerings, the new facility features an innovative "adult playground," equipped with workout stations for fitness enthusiasts. This allows parents and caregivers to maintain their fitness routines as their children play, promoting an active lifestyle for all ages.
The city is thrilled to unveil the Memorial Park Playground, a space where our community can come together to play, exercise, and create wonderful memories. This project is a testament to the dedication to enhancing the quality of life for Sumter residents and fostering a vibrant community for both children and adults
