Smoke Detector Program
Sumter firefighters will install smoke detectors, sponsored by the City Living Program, Black River Electric Cooperative, Lowes, Wal-mart, and S.C. Fire Association, in your home free of charge.
Individuals wishing to have a smoke detector installed need to visit/call the HQ fire station and fill out the required paperwork. You may also print and complete the Red Cross Form (PDF) and submit it to us at the Fire Department Headquarters at 129 E. Hampton Avenue, Sumter, SC 29150. If you would like to fill out your form and submit it electronically, please click here or use the link in the menu on the left side of this page.
Aluminum Cans for Burned Children Program
The Sumter Fire Department collects aluminum cans to help burn victims through the Medical University of S.C. Individuals wanting to donate aluminum cans can drop them off at any of the city fire stations or call the fire department and the fire department will be happy to pick them up.
Bike Program
The Sumter Fire Department is a drop-off point for unwanted bikes that may be new or in need of repair. The bikes are refurbished by the Optimist Club and delivered during the holidays to children. Bikes may be dropped off at any of the city stations.
