City Welcomes Chris Singleton to Sumter
Until 2015, Emanuel AME Church in Charleston was known mainly for its important role in South Carolina history. But the unspeakable events of June 15 that year changed the lives of nine families forever. Now one of those family members is sharing his story—a story of resilience, forgiveness, and unity.
Following the loss of his mother, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, Chris Singleton began to establish himself as a motivational speaker with the message that “love is stronger than hate.” Mr. Singleton is an entrepreneur who has also had a successful career in minor-league baseball, being drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2017. He is the author of the best-selling children’s book, Different—A Story about Loving Your Neighbor, and engages with audiences ranging from school kids to major corporations, including Boeing and Microsoft.
On February 12, 2024, the City of Sumter welcomes Mr. Singleton to the Sumter Opera House for “Unity in the Community,” where he will encourage his audience with the “forgiveness principles” that can “help any person overcome any adversity life throws their way.” There will be two sessions, held at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Admission is FREE, and the public is invited. Advance tickets are required and available online at sumteroperahouse.com.
