Public Advisories October 8

 

In an effort to keep our Citizens informed on the maintenance and cleanup of the 2015 flood and where we go from here...

 

• The City of Sumter and Oswego boil water advisories have been lifted. Rembert is the only water system that remains under a boil water advisory.

 

• Both Highway 261 North to Camden and Highway 521 North to Camden have reopened as of Thursday afternoon.

 

• Curfew for both City and County will continue through Saturday morning, 12 Midnight to 7 am.

 

• Friday, October 9, 2015, both City of Sumter and Sumter County Offices will open for regular hours, 8:30 AM – 5 PM

 

• City & County will begin to pick up “Brown Debris” (waste from residential homes) on Monday, October 12th.  This waste does not need to be bagged, but placed outside next to the road in a pile, separate from your regular house garbage and yard debris.

 

• The United Way of Sumter, Lee and Clarendon Counties have established a website people can visit to make donations to help with flood assistance. People looking to volunteer, donate items or make a financial donation can visit their website: http://www.uwaysumter.org/flood-relief-information.

 

• Item donations are also being coordinated via United Ministries for everything except hot food. Anyone wishing to donate is encouraged to call them at 803-775-0757 to arrange drop off. At this time they are no doing donations pick-ups due to strained personnel resources.

 

• Crews from SCDOT have begun working on temporary patches to reopen roads as quickly as possible. SCDOT is prioritizing roadways based on population area, access to infrastructure and industrial areas, and traffic density. For an updated road closure list for both Sumter County and throughout the state, visit the SCDOT website at www.scdot.org.

 

• Sumter residents can register for assistance online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov  or they can call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).

 

• Anyone representing themselves to area residents as a FEMA subcontractor should have FEMA identification credentials with an identification card that has both a FEMA seal and a code chip similar to those found on Military ID’s. If a Sumter resident encounters someone who claims to represent FEMA but does not have the proper credentials, they are asked to contact their local law enforcement agency. 

 

• Water distribution sites remain at Fire Stations in Rembert, Dubose, Mayesville and Pinewood. 

 

• If your home or business sustained flood damage, the City and County Flood Damage Prevention Regulations may affect how you rebuild or make improvements. The City-County can offer individuals guidance during this confusing time. Residents and businesses can call the office directly at 803-774-1660 or by stopping by their office at 12 W. Liberty Street in Sumter, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.
