Hurricane Dorian Update #4

Sumter County’s Emergency Operations Center shut down today at 6 p.m., just as the shelter at Mayewood Middle School also closed as Hurricane Dorian moves up the coast of South Carolina.

The offices of the City of Sumter and Sumter County Government will resume normal business hours at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019.

City of Sumter Thursday, September 5 residential and commercial garbage as well as recycling customers please remember that your pick up this week has been rescheduled to Saturday, Sept. 7.

Hurricane Dorian Update #3

Mayewood Middle School at 4300 East Brewington Road has been opened to serve as a emergency shelter. The American Red Cross and the S.C. Department of Social Services are in charge of the shelter and pets are not allowed.

Hurricane Dorian Update #2

 

The offices of the City of Sumter and Sumter County Government will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, as Hurricane Dorian approaches the state.

Sumter County’s Emergency Operations Center will activate today at 6 p.m.

Emergency Shelter information will be announced later today.

For City of Sumter customers, residential and commercial garbage service and recycling for Thursday pick-up will be delayed until Saturday, Sept. 7. Yard debris pick-up will be delayed until your normal schedule resumes.

Sumter County Recreation & Parks will hold practice Wednesday, Sept. 4 with Thursday practice cancelled. All City of Sumter parks will be closed on Thursday as well.

City of Sumter and Sumter County Government are planning on resuming normal business hours on Friday, Sept. 6.

Hurricane Dorian Update #1
 
Officials from the City of Sumter and Sumter County Government met earlier today to talk about the potential impact Hurricane Dorian may have on the area in the coming days.
 
Sumter County Emergency Management Director Erik Hayes gave an update on the storm’s projected track.
 
The Sumter Police Department, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Sumter School District, Sumter County Emergency Medical Services, the Sumter Fire Department and Shaw Air Force Base were all represented at the meeting.
