City To Begin Sidewalk Assessment as Part of the Walk-Bike Plan

To help improve the conditions of our sidewalks, the City of Sumter is partnering with StreetScan, a Massachusetts-based company that has assessed over 100 communities across North America.

Crews will be out in the city starting this week and assessing through August 5.

StreetScan employs scooter-mounted sensing technologies to assess the sidewalk conditions. The systems determine the health of each sidewalk and identify defects including tripping hazards and cracking. This data will help the City of Sumter and SCDOT to identify and prioritize repair needs across our community.

This assessment is being held in conjunction with the ongoing Sumter Walk-Bike Master Plan.
