Public Invited to Presentation of Draft Historic Preservation Design Review Guidelines
SUMTER, SC (July 24, 2017) â The City of Sumter is inviting the public to a presentation of the Draft Historic Preservation Design Review Guidelines document on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 6 PM in the Central Carolina Technical College Health Sciences Center Iris Room, located at 133 S. Main St. in Downtown Sumter.
The purpose of the public meeting is for staff to present the draft Historic Preservation Design Review Guidelines Document to property owners, businesses, and interested citizens. The draft guidelines are for both the Downtown Sumter and Hampton Park Historic Districts.
âPlanning Staff has worked closely with the consultants, Hill Studio, a professional firm, out of Roanoke, Virginia, to update the guidelines so they are more user-friendly and informative,â stated Helen Roodman, Senior Planner with the City-County Planning Department. âWe believe the draft document goes a long way towards improving usability and is a positive step in assisting property owners and the Historic Preservation Design Review Committee with appropriate design for rehabilitation of existing buildings and new construction in the historic districts.â
The draft guidelines document is available for review here. The project was made possible through a grant with the South Carolina Department of Archives and History.
In addition to this public presentation meeting, a special meeting will be held on Thursday, August 17th at 6 PM at City Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Sumter Opera House for the Historic Preservation Design Review Committee to receive formal public comments on the Guidelines Document.
For more information about the Historic District Design Guidelines, contact Roodman at the Planning Departmentâs 12 W. Liberty Street office, call 803-774-1636, or email [email protected].
