Census Day Is Here – Make It Count!
Sumter, SC (April 1, 2020) – Today was National Census Day, I want to encourage you to respond to the 2020 Census and help us shape the future. The 2020 Census is more than a population count. It’s an opportunity to shape the future of our community. The census results have an impact on planning and funding for health clinics, highways, fire departments and disaster response, education programs, and so much more.
I know there is a lot on everyone’s mind right now, but the 2020 Census is something that is very important and will influence our community decades to come. And, it has never been easier to respond to the census, whether online, over the phone, or by mail – all without having to leave your own home.
Furthermore, as the federal and state governments consider the distribution of COVID-19 emergency and disaster relief funds, it is important that they know we’re here and what our accurate population count is. Ensuring we get fair representation and an equitable distribution of federal and state resources has never been more important.
Please join us in this effort to shape our community’s future by completing the census questionnaire and counting everyone that lives and sleeps at your residence. Now is the time to inspire others to respond as well.
The 2020 Census is open for self-response online at 2020Census.gov, over the phone by calling the number provided in your invitation, and by paper through the mail. By law your individual responses are not released to the public and can only be used to produce statistics.
Thank you very much and God bless you, the United States of America, and our community.
