The Sumter City-County Board of Zoning Appeals is a nine member Board appointed by the Sumter City and County Councils. The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) is a quasi-judicial body that hears requests for variances from zoning regulations, appeals of staff decisions, and special exceptions.
The BZA generally meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. During renovations at the Sumter Opera House, all Planning Department Public Meetings will be temporarily relocated to the James E. Clyburn Intermodal Transportation Center, Santee-Wateree Regional Transit Authority (RTA) Meeting Room, 129 Harvin Street.
Requests for BZA action must be submitted at least 22 days prior to the scheduled meeting.
